If you’re a fan of advance shopping or simply want to know what you’ll be wearing in a few months, you need to know that there are four basic trends: psychotropical, youth tonic, kinship and slow futures. If none of those sound familiar, don’t be disappointed. It’s because they’re all brand new!
I got all the information presented in this article, from Sara Maggioni's (WGSN) speech at the MICAM shoe fair in September 2017 and I will try to make it as clear as possible.
Trend: SLOW FUTURES
The motto of this trend evolves around the notion that to be able to reimage the future there needs to be a "powerful past”. The major characteristics of this trend are the powerful contrasts between the crafted and the technical, the natural and hand-made. Design and technology are becoming more seamless, and innovations will be filtered through fashion realism.
- Attention to luxurious elements
- Easy-to-do, simple and comfortable appearance
- Historic elements and remakes
- Texture and tactility
- Ideal for spring collections
The “travel” without borders theme! Whatever culture you are living in, every day you get inspired by what and who you see online. A mix of techniques and materials from various different countries, influencing people like never before.
- Mix international and local influences
- Cross-cultural art
- Electric adornment
- Elaborate patterns
- The idea of no borders
- Excellent for spring, mid-spring and celebrations
“Psychotropical” is an emerging trend for Spring / Summer 2017-2018 with exotic, bright and printed details. Full of high-definition digital nature prints, mixed prints of plant and animal hybrids as well as peacock feathers creating a psychedelic camouflage. Materials and fabrics are recycled and highly innovative.
- Passionate colours
- Sophisticated Comfort
- All day dressing
- Bright and vibrant tropical prints
- Ideal for summer and high summer
Trend: YOUTH TONIC
The trend of eras blending! The motto is that youth is first and foremost a state of mind and not a state of being. Teens are inspired by eras such as ’90s club culture and adults are inspired by teens. This trend creates new contemporary shapes and forms with vibrant and eclectic colours.
- Colorful, eclectic and egocentric
- 1990’s club wear is the main influence
- Almost - neon colours
- Gender adaptable dressing
- Unexpected wearing combinations
- Increase of streetwear
- Ideal for the spring
